Family Research Help
Thank you for contacting the North Carolina Genealogical Society for help
with your research problem.
While the Society cannot provide extensive research to its members, we do
maintain a "Please Help Me" (PHM) Committee. At the present time, this
Committee consists of only one VOLUNTEER. Due to time restraints, we cannot
send you "everything we have" or "any information we know" on your ancestor.
The VOLUNTEER makes a trip to the NC State Library or the NC State Archives to
answer your question. NCGS does not maintain a library of its own. All
materials, including books, donated to us are housed at the Genealogical
Services Branch of the NC State Library.
The North Carolina Genealogical Society is a nonprofit organization
that has volunteers for its Officers and Directors. We
operate on membership fees and donations to the Society. While
we only charge a very nominal fee for research we do appreciate any donations
given to us to further the goals of the Society.
The Board of Directors has put the following rules in place for
answering requests:
-
Limit of one question per letter with appropriate information to answer the
question.
Include all the information you have such as a time period (example: 1820-1850)
and location (i.e. city, community, county, etc). Be as specific as possible.
DO NOT request detailed research. Remember that
our volunteer can not provide extensive research due to time constraints. The
volunteer can not address send everything you have nor send any
information you know on my ancestor type questions.
Include a $10.00 non-refundable fee to cover
copies, expenses and research. Additional
expenses will be billed. Non-payment of fees will terminate any more
correspondence from the PHM Committee. If you appreciate this service
and wish to make a donation, please feel free to send that too.
A #10 self-addressed stamped envelope must accompany each request.
NCGS members must include their membership number (on address label) These
requests will be honored first.
