NCGS Membership Brochure

Society Benefits

When you join the North Carolina Genealogical Society you join a group of people who share a common interest in the genealogy and history of the "Old North State." You will receive two award winning publications. The NCGS Journal, published quarterly, contains well-researched articles of genealogical value and numerous abstracts of unpublished records relating to North Carolina. The NCGS News will introduce you to local societies across the state, and provide you with upcoming genealogical events across the nation. You may submit two free queries per year (4 for family membership) to be published in the Newsletter. You will be invited to attend, at a discount, the NCGS annual meeting and workshop, as well as any other NCGS sponsored programs.

Meetings and Programs

NCGS sponsors an annual meeting and workshop in Raleigh each year. Throughout the year the Society co-sponsors, with local societies, special workshops across the state. Local Societies should contact the Program Committee if interested in a joint program.

Workshops

NCGS  is sponsoring three workshops a year, beginning in 2006.  We have started "The Speaker's Forum" each year for people from NC to have a forum to allow new speakers a place to lecture.  The first speaker's forum was a great success!  Contact the NCGS Program Committee if interested in speaking at this Forum.

Publications & Sales

Besides the NCGS Journal and Newsletter, the Society is involved in an active publication program. To request a complete listing of the NCGS publications, write to NCGS, c/o Crestena Oakley, 1289 Macs Ln, Greenville NC 27634-7450. Current issues of the Journal and Newsletter are available to members only.

"MEMBERS ONLY" WEB SITE

The Society has established this website as a benefit of membership.  Some of the content of this site includes the ability to create your user profile and enter your own queries.  The NCGS Journal CD 1975-2000 is placed here for viewing.  We encourage members to add their own genealogical publications, which must be approved by the NCGS Board of Directors.  Additional materials and features are planned for the future.

Society Goals

The North Carolina Genealogical Society, chartered in 1974, is open to all who are interested in genealogical or historical research and in these goals:

While not maintaining a library of its own, the Society promotes and encourages the development of the many fine research centers across the state. Books given to the Society for review purposes in the Journal are donated to the Genealogical Branch of the State Library of North Carolina located in Raleigh, NC.

How to Become a Member

Simply print out the NCGS membership form, fill it in and return it with your annual dues payment. All memberships run for the calendar year. Back issues of the Journal for the current year will be sent to those who join prior to 1 November. Dues received after will be entered for the following year unless the Secretary is notified otherwise. Mail to the address at the end of the form.

Correspondence with NCGS

Please include your email address on each correspondence sent to NCGS.  The Society is cutting expenses by answering letters, emails, workshop confirmations, etc. by email.  Also include our member number on NCGS forms, applications, and correspondence.  The member number should be on the label of the NCGS News and NCGS Journal.  NCGS appreciates the help and support of our members.  We are actively recruiting new members.
