Is there a "discount code" or "special rate ID" for the Clarion? Using the URL supplied, the lowest rate I see is $104/night.
Thanks for your question rollie!
And, thanks to Jeanne Lund, NGS Conference Services and Exhibits, we have learned the answer to rollie's question ...
"I don’t know of one. They should just say they are attending the National Genealogical Society conference and that should get them the special rate."
So, it sounds like to take advantage of the NGS 2009 rate at the Clarion, you will need to call and make your reservation versus using the web interface to ensure that you get the discounted rate!
I hope this has answered your question!
If Clarion can't or won't fix this, it seems to me that the information on www.ngsgenealogy.org/Conferences/2009/hotel.htm should be updated to reflect this issue.
Thanks for your followup "rollie." I have further communicated with Jeanne Lund and learned the following ...
"[for] the Clarion, the number to dial is 919-832-0501 for reservations. They are going to set up a special online registration system for us, it should take about a week from now. Once I get that link I will forward it to you."
Until the online registration is set-up, please use the above phone number to make your reservation at the conference rate. As soon as online registration, at the conference rate, is established, we will post that information.
Noting an exchange on the APG list -- recognize that the Marriott City Center hotel, is a brand new facility (opened July 31, 2008), and to please have patience as you make your reservation!
And, the following additional information will hopefully make that go smoothly!
1. Make sure that you are aware of the details about making a reservation posted at http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/Conferences/2009/hotel.htm
2. You will receive parking for one car free of charge.
3. You will charged an in-room internet access fee (if you use this service) or know that the conference center will have free Internet access in the lobby for the duration of the conference.
4. Whether at the Marriott or elsewhere, make your hotel reservations early. A number of local colleges and universities will be holding graduation ceremonies on the weekends before and during the conference. This affects not only the availability of hotel rooms, it will also impact restaurants!
5. Direct any questions about local arrangements to ngsraleigh2009@gmail.com -- a member of the local planning committee will try and assist you.
What about cancellation? If I make reservation for room now and find I am unable to attend, can I cancel the hotel reservation? Is there a penalty?
Check each hotel's web-site for their cancellation policies.
And, typically, there are no penalties/fees for cancelling a reservation more than 24 hours in advance. Some hotels even allow you to hold your reservation until 6pm on the day your reservation commences.
When making your reservation, either online or via the phone, please do ask what the cancellation policy is.
