The Government and Heritage Library preserves and facilitates public access to state government information; advance the study, understanding, and appreciation of North Carolina’s cultural heritage.  The Government and Heritage Library houses and collects: Digital Collection, Electronic Journals & Databases, Genealogy, Newspaper Microfilm, North Caroliniana, State Documents, Statistics and Demographics, and Video.

The genealogy collection includes indexes and abstracts of original records on a variety of topics including county records and military records for example.  Also included in the collection are books on Native American genealogy, African American genealogy, passenger lists, family histories, indexes and abstracts for colonial era states that our ancestors may have emigrated from or to such as Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina and more.  Also included are journals from county, state, and national genealogical societies.  And of course we have a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff.
