NGS 2017 in Raleigh

The NGS Conference is coming to Raleigh in 2017!

The NGS conference, which will be held in Raleigh in May 2017, is right around the corner.  Although it’s over a year away, from a planning perspective it is right around the corner.

We are soliciting volunteers for the event.  We have a rough idea of the tasks that are needed and would like to get your name on the list of volunteers. Contact Sharon Gable at ngs2017volunteers@gmail.com to add your name to the list.

Volunteers will be needed to pack bags before the conference starts, help with registration of the thousands of people who will be attending the conference, man the society booth in the exhibit hall, monitor lecture rooms, and serve as “Ask Me” people in the hospitality booth to help visitors locate restaurants, etc., in Raleigh as well as help those who have gotten turned around moving from one lecture to another in the convention center.

Some positions, such as room monitor (who ensures that all people who go into a lecture room are registered patrons and are wearing a name badge), should be those who plan to register for the conference. The idea here is that if you've planned to attend that particular lecture anyway, you can help NCGS by volunteering to be a room monitor for that lecture. Many other tasks can be done whether you plan to attend the conference or not.  As with all volunteer positions, there is no compensation for these tasks except a hearty thank you from me, the NCGS board, and all the people you help.

More details and volunteer assignments will be available after the program for the NGS 2017 Family History Conference comes out.

NCGS Annual Meeting 2015 and weather

Although the weather may not be particularly nice this weekend, the Annual Conference and Workshop on Oct 3rd is scheduled to go on as planned.

We hope all who made reservations will be able to attend. Drive safely!

Problems viewing the NC Taxes Webinar

It appears the link sent in the registration email was somewhat scrambled, and clicking on the link in some cases results in an error message.

Copying the link and pasting it into a new browser window works for most people.

Those registering from this point forward should have no trouble.

If you have already registered, and copying and pasting the link still does not work for you, please email the Webmaster for a new link.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Magazine discounts renewed

Recently, a member brought to our attention that the member benefit for magazine discounts no longer worked. (Thank you!)

We discovered that this past spring, Family Chronicle Magazine had changed its name to Your Genealogy Today. In doing so, this apparently also changed their website links, which in turn broke our links to the discounts offered in the past for both both it and Internet Genealogy magazine.

We are pleased to announce the publisher has not only provided us with updated links, but has also offered NCGS Members a 20% discount to all products in their online store, including magazine subscriptions.

See the Magazine Discounts section in the left-hand column to take advantage of this benefit. (You must be logged in as a Member to access the page.)

Website outage

We recently experienced an issue with DNS name servers pointing incorrectly, which in effect meant the addressing to our site was broken. The problem was identified and corrected, and we're back.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

This has also affected our email - it may take a few days before we are able to receive/respond to any email sent to the NCGS Administrator or the Webmaster.

UPDATE: 22 Jun 2014 - Our email appears to be functioning normally, once again.

NCGS Journal - May 2015

The latest NCGS Journal, Vol. XLI No. 2, is now available in the Member's section of the website. Hardcopy should mail out within the next two weeks.
