Lectures
Registration will begin at 8:45 a.m. The full-day workshop will include four lectures by Rev. McDonald:

1. “Churches in North Carolina”. An examination of various Christian bodies in the Tar Heel State, their records, and their utility for genealogical researchers.
2. “The Draper Manuscripts”. Lyman Copeland Draper (1815-1891) spent decades gathering information on Federal era pioneers through interviews and correspondence. His vast collection, much of it pertaining to North Carolina and surrounding states, is preserved in the Wisconsin state archives. Will you find new clues there?
3. “Brick Wall or Black Hole? Knowing When to Stop”. Sometimes genealogical researchers strike up against so-called brick walls. Sometimes they are insurmountable. Sometimes, in our effort to be reasonably exhaustive in our efforts, we fail to close our research when a conclusion is clear and chase endlessly after an elusive clue or confirmation. Some tips for recognizing when it’s time to write up your findings.
4. “Reach for the Power Tools: Record Transcription and Analysis”. A look at the tools any genealogist must master in order to develop successful strategies for continuing research.
