Research at the NC Government and Heritage Library

Welcome National Genealogical Society conference attendees! We are excited to host family historians and genealogists at the North Carolina Government and Heritage Library (GHL), which is part of the State Library of North Carolina and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

We celebrate the study, understanding, and appreciation of North Carolina’s rich cultural heritage. The GHL offers access to an extensive collection of published materials, including family histories; published abstracts; county, state, and federal records; and census data as well as county records housed in the State Archives of North Carolina. By offering in-person and remote research assistance, workshops, and other genealogy-related events, the GHL helps thousands of people conduct their family research each year.

The GHL is located on the mezzanine of the same building as the State Archives of North Carolina at 109 E. Jones Street, Raleigh, North Carolina. The Library will provide the same hours as the State Archives of North Carolina during the NGS 2017 Family History Conference.
