On 10 March 2018, a few blocks from the riverfront in Wilmington, a group gathered on the third floor of the New Hanover Public Library to learn about “Advancing Your Research with DNA.” The event was the NCGS Spring Workshop, which was co-sponsored by the Old New Hanover Genealogical Society. There were 80 attendees from across North Carolina, as well as from Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, and Washington, DC.
Patti Hobbs, CG®, did an outstanding job that morning instructing the group on “A Roadmap for Solving Genealogical Problems with Autosomal DNA.” After a buffet lunch from Jackson’s BBQ, attendees were invited to learn about the North Carolina Room and get a tour of its collection from the library staff. During breaks and lunch, a number of vendors offered books and other items for those interested in genealogy, history, and the local area.
Afternoon sessions resumed with Patti presenting “Better Together: Making Your Case with Documents and DNA.” Following the afternoon break, Patti concluded the workshop with “Evaluating Conflicting Evidence.”
Many thanks go out to Jennifer Daugherty and the members of the Old New Hanover Genealogical Society who helped with so many details of the event, and who provided an assortment of snacks and beverages throughout the day and managed the lunch service.
