This award recognizes a group or individual for providing an outstanding example of a freely accessible online resource promoting North Carolina genealogy. It was first awarded in 2005 and only applied to websites. In 2024 it was expanded to include separate awards for blogs, social media pages, and video channels.
It is given in four distinct categories
- A website
- A blog
- A social media page or group
- A video channel
