Each year, the North Carolina Genealogical Society honors worthy individual and society endeavors in publishing and other contributions to North Carolina genealogy. Awards are presented at the NCGS Fall Workshop and Annual Meeting. We encourage you to join us in recognizing the labors of deserving individuals and societies by submitting a nomination this year.
We are pleased to announce 4 new awards for 2024:
- The Award for Excellence in an Online Resource – Blogs
- The Award for Excellence in an Online Resource – Social Media Page/Group
- The Award for Excellence in an Online Resource – Video Channel
- The Award for Outstanding Article in the NCGS Journal or its Supplements
Nominations for awards for printed materials must be mailed. All other nominations may be placed online. See instructions under each award below.

The Award for Excellence in Periodical Publishing
(Formerly separate awards for journals and newsletters)
This award recognizes an outstanding example of a periodical journal or newsletter published by a local North Carolina genealogical society.
Nominations for this award may be submitted Online ONLY if the periodical examples are freely available to view on a website. Otherwise they must be mailed using the Printed Nomination Form.

The Award for Excellence in an Online Resource
(Formerly the Award for Excellence in Web Presence)
This award recognizes a group or individual for providing an outstanding example of a freely accessible online resource promoting North Carolina genealogy.
It is given in four distinct categories
- A website
- A blog [NEW]
- A social media page or group [NEW]
- A video channel [NEW]
The resource must have significant new content added within the eighteen months preceding the end of the nominating period.

The Award for Excellence in Publishing
Given in three distinct categories:
- A book, or a set of books, of abstracts or transcriptions of an original North Carolina record.
- A publication relevant to North Carolina genealogy.
- A book of family history relevant to North Carolina.
The books must have been published within the eighteen months preceding the end of the nominating period.
Nominations for this award must be mailed using the Printed Nomination Form.

The Award for Outstanding Article in the NCGS Journal or its Supplements [NEW]
This award recognizes an outstanding example of an article submitted to the NCGS Journal and/or its supplements.
The article must have been published within the eighteen months preceding the end of the nominating period.

The Award for Outstanding Contribution to North Carolina Genealogy
Recognizes an individual whose longtime genealogical contributions have greatly enhanced the study of family history in North Carolina and the region.
