Contribute to the NCGS Journal
We are looking for contributions to future editions of the NCGS Journal. These contributions may include images, suggestions for resources, personal family stories, and interesting information related to the issue’s topic that would benefit journal readers and genealogical researchers.
2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States and the start of the Revolutionary War. With that in mind, the 2026 editions of the NCGS Journal will publish materials related to that theme. Let’s celebrate the contributions of North Carolinians!
A few suggested topics to consider are:

Stories/Case Studies — How North Carolinians contributed to the Revolutionary War in non-military fashion. Basically, how civilians supported the war. All too often, we focus on the importance of the military, and they were not the only ones involved in the conflict.

Stories/Case Studies – North Carolinian Military involvement (on either side of the Revolutionary War conflict). With compiled service records and pensions readily available, please do NOT just restate this type of information. Take the story further. Did you learn additional information through other resources – militia records, court minutes, tax records, legislative petitions, and beyond – we find our Revolutionary War ancestors sometimes documented in other record groups.

Stories/Case Studies – Did your North Carolina living enslaved or Free Person of Color (FPOC) ancestor participate during the quest for our nation’s independence, and if so, how?

Stories/Case Studies – Did your ancestor sign a North Carolina precursor document to the Declaration of Independence? If so, which one? Give us a bit of history about the document, and tell us a bit more about your ancestor(s) that signed it.

How To – detailed information on “how to” research some aspect of life, service or beyond during the Revolutionary War focused on North Carolinians.

How To – an introduction to a unique database or resource that really makes a difference when researching North Carolinian Revolutionary War ancestors (ideally free to access, e.g., Carolana.com and RevWarApps.com or NCGS resources like Delamar Transcripts or Secretary of State Revolutionary Military Papers).

Documents – abstracts or transcriptions of off-the-beaten-path [not easily accessible or previously published] materials documenting North Carolinians during the Revolutionary War period.

Remember – North Carolinian ancestors must be the focus of the submitted pieces, AND any submitted pieces must include source information! Though the word “stories” is used above, we are not talking about fiction pieces or even historical fiction! Additionally, if this material has been previously published elsewhere, please state that. We are less likely to publish material that can be found elsewhere, though there are some exceptions based on the editor’s discretion.

Contribute to Bible Records of North Carolina, Volume 2
The family Bible is a valuable resource for learning about our ancestors. Record and share your history with others by contributing your family’s Bible records to the second edition of Bible Records of North Carolina, to be published by the North Carolina Genealogical Society.
We’re looking for records that meet the following criteria:
- The family named in the Bible originated in North Carolina, even if they moved on to other states
- Persons listed in the Bible are no longer living
- Records have not been published in book form elsewhere
Details that should be included in your submission include:
- Provenance of the record—how did you come about this Bible? Who are the previous owners?
- A photo or photocopy of the original handwritten pages and the title page of the Bible or other evidence of the publication date of the Bible
- A little history of the family named in the Bible, eg., if the persons named in the Bible record were born (or died) in a variety of places and you have relevant information based on your own knowledge, family knowledge, or research
- Optional: Typewritten transcription of the pages, if you already have them
