About the Webinar:
Deeds are extremely useful in genealogical research for determining time and place, relationships, neighbors, wealth, occupations, and more. They are also the most voluminous records you’ll encounter dating from before the founding of North Carolina up to right now, and deeds for a specific property can be scattered amongst multiple counties. This webinar will show how to find these deeds, how to understand them, and how they can apply to your research.
About the Speaker:
David McCorkle is President of Practicore Incorporated, a software company providing web-based services to small businesses. He has been writing software since 1974 for many types of computers, devices, environments, and businesses, including the current NCGS website.
David is the creator of the free website NC Land Grant Images and Data which contains searchable data for all 200,000+ land grants issued in North Carolina
from 1663 to 1960, along with 500,000 high quality images of original documents. In 2020, he along with several other genealogists and historians founded NC Historical Records Online, a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to provide public online access to images of original records and other relevant information useful to researching North Carolina history and genealogy.
David is a native of North Carolina with deep roots on many lines dating back to the 1700s, primarily in the Mecklenburg County area. He is President of the Durham-Orange Genealogical Society (D-OGS) and is on the board of the NC Genealogical Society, the Mecklenburg Genealogical Society, and the Historic Mapping Congress. He has given lectures and webinars to national, state, and local audiences on topics such as land grants, court records, digitization, maps and mapping tools, land records, DNA, and land platting.
