About the Webinar:
Researching colonial ancestors can feel like searching for buried treasure! With so many early records lost or scattered across the ocean, colonial research can be tricky – but exciting new resources are making it easier than ever. In this session, Diane will highlight surviving colonial records that are free and easy to access, along with recent digitization projects from the State Archives and State Library of North Carolina. She’ll also introduce new online collections and UK resources that bring early American history right to your desktop.
And we won’t forget the women of the colonial era. Many widows became heads of household and appear in both familiar and unexpected records. Diane will share several online platforms – some open to the public, others available through libraries – that help uncover these valuable documents and the stories they tell.
About the Speaker:
Diane L. Richard, MEng, MBA, is a professional genealogist and owner of Mosaic Research and Project Management (MosaicRPM). With over 35 years of experience, she researches client ancestors and shares her expertise through writing and speaking.
Diane is a prolific author. She has written over 600 articles for Internet Genealogy and edited several genealogical publications. These include Upfront with NGS and the North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal. She is an international speaker, presenting webinars and in-person programs on various genealogical topics. Her areas of expertise include southern research focusing on North Carolina, researching African American ancestors, particularly those who were enslaved, and highlighting the often-overlooked lives of female ancestors.
Diane is also co-founder of GenWebinars and Tar Heel Discoveries and is Vice President of NC Historical Records Online (NCHRO).
