The North Carolina Genealogical Society is seeking proposals from dynamic and engaging speakers for our hybrid 2025 Fall Conference. Our 2024 conference was a great success with over 300 attendees, and we’re ready to do it again! Submission deadline is April 30, 2025.
OVERVIEW
- Date: Friday-Saturday October 24-25
- Location: In person at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center in Raleigh, NC.
- Virtual: All sessions will be livestreamed to online registrants, and video recordings will be available to all registrants for 60 days.
- Deadline for submissions: April 30, 2025
- Notification of acceptance: May 19, 2025.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- You may submit up to six lecture proposals.
- You will have 60 minutes total for each presentation including Q&A from the audience. The lecture should be a minimum of 45 minutes, and time for Q&A should be no less than 5 minutes.
- Approximately 2/3 of the live audience will be virtual, so please do not submit proposals that are primarily effective for in-person audiences.
- A four page handout submitted in advance is required. It will be included in the printed syllabus so we cannot accept other than four pages.
- Although we welcome any genealogy related topic, preference will be given to topics that involve North Carolina genealogical research and/or rely heavily upon North Carolina examples. Topics that are primarily historical in nature are also welcome if they can assist with genealogical research.
- We are also looking for 2 hour hands-on workshops on topics that can help genealogists in general. These do not need to be North Carolina focused. You may submit multiple workshop proposals, and they do not count against the six lecture limit. Workshops are in-person only and will not be recorded or livestreamed.
COMPENSATION
- $250 honorarium per lecture/workshop hour.
- Free conference registration, including access to all video recordings for 60 days.
- Lunch provided on both days along with a reception on Friday.
- For those living more than 50 miles from the venue, $350 fixed travel and hotel expenses per lecture/workshop hour, with a maximum of $700 in expenses.

- A 50 word maximum summary of the presentation. We may edit it as needed.
- The audience level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, All Levels)
- An outline of the presentation – this will be used for evaluation purposes.
- Any other information you think would help with our evaluation.
For each workshop proposal, please provide:
- An indication that this is for a workshop
- The title that will appear in the syllabus and publicity, maximum 16 words
- A 50 word maximum summary of the workshop. We may edit it as needed.
- The audience level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, All Levels)
- A description of the workshop including the goals
- The maximum number of students
- Any equipment or materials required
