Editor’s Message
We are excited to explore the faiths that your North Carolina ancestors may have embraced and the records they created. This topic is large enough that we divided it into two parts. This issue is considered Part 1, and Part 2 will be in Vol 47 #2.
We explore the following faiths and record types:
- Baptist via (1) New Bern First Baptist Church Minutes, 1819-1848, (2) Primitive Baptist Clergyman Cushing Biggs Hassell Documented African Americans, (3) Sandy Creek Baptist Church Minutes, and (4) Sappony Primitive Baptist Church.
- Church of God via Church of God Affiliated Newspaper Subscribers List (1844-1848)
- Episcopal via (1) Delgado Episcopal Mission Register and (2) Searching Episcopal Archives in North Carolina
- Methodist via Methodist Obituary Index (Wofford College)
- Moravian via Genealogical Resources at the Moravian Archives, Winston-Salem
- Presbyterian via What Kind of Presbyterians Were Your Ancestors?
- Quaker via Finding Friends Through Guilford College’s Quaker Archives
Though we present select faith-specific research resources and records, also remember to research the mentioned resource types and records for whichever faith(s) are applicable for whom you are studying.
As always, check out the reviews of excellent genealogically relevant books that continue to be published.
Part 2, published in Vol 47 #2, will cover the following faiths (and hopefully more): AME, Baptist, Catholic, Church of England, Jewish, and United Church of Christ.
Best wishes wherever your genealogical journey takes you.
