Tryon County
Established in 1768 (effective 1769) from Mecklenburg County. Divided into Lincoln and Rutherford counties in 1779.

Tryon County encompassed modern day Burke, Cleveland, Gaston, Henderson, Lincoln, McDowell, and Rutherford counties in North Carolina and Greenville, Spartanburg, Cherokee, York, Laurens, Union and Chester counties in South Carolina.

The State Archives of North Carolina has some original records and some on microfilm, but no Estates records.
