Genealogy is a pursuit that everyone can enjoy, but there are some who cannot afford to attend many of the paid educational offerings like conferences and classes. The NCGS Sponsored Attendance Fund accepts donations year round which are then used to pay NCGS event registration fees for those who would not be able to afford it otherwise.
General Information
- These funds are only used to pay for registration fees for recipients at conferences or events run by NCGS. They will not be used for recipient’s personal expenses such as food, hotels, travel, etc.
- Funds will typically be used for the next upcoming event, and any funds not distributed will be saved for future events.
- Donors to this fund may not select specific individuals for their donations. If someone wishes to sponsor a specific individual, it is much easier to go through the regular registration process and use the recipient’s name for the tickets. In other words, the person paying for a ticket doesn’t have to be the person using it. That also allows you to pay for any extras for them like lunches or workshops which are not covered by this fund.
To Make a Donation
Thanks for considering making a donation to this fund. Please note the following:
- Potential recipients register for specific events, currently the NCGS 2026 Fall Conference. Although we will use funds as they come in, you will be donating to a general fund for registration assistance and not for a specific event. If there are not enough requests for assistance for the upcoming event or if that event has passed, your funds will be saved for a future event. You may donate at any time.
- Your name will be listed as an attendance sponsor in event materials. It will also be publicized in various places by NCGS, such as our website or newsletter. There is an option to remain anonymous or make the donation in memory or in honor of someone.
- Registration costs vary, but for the 2026 Fall Conference the fee is $99. Any amount donated will be appreciated.

To Request Registration Assistance
REGISTRATION ASSISTANCE HAS CLOSED FOR THE FALL 2026 CONFERENCE. WE WILL OPEN IT BACK UP WHEN REGISTRATION BEGINS FOR THE SPRING 2027 VIRTUAL CONFERENCE.
We are glad to provide an opportunity to help you attend a conference which you cannot otherwise afford. Please note the following:
- Requests can only by made using the form below. They are made for specific events, currently the NCGS 2026 Fall Conference.
- Filling out the form does not guarantee that you will receive any assistance. Funds will be allocated first come-first served based on when your online form is submitted, and on the availability of funds. If we are unable to sponsor your registration for this event, you must reapply for any future events.
- NCGS does not have the resources to validate financial need, so we are depending entirely on the honor system. If you say you would like to attend but cannot afford it, then we will accept that as fact. Please keep in mind that individuals are donating their money to this fund with the understanding of helping those needing assistance.
- NCGS will not publicize the names of those receiving registration assistance, but recipients are free to disclose this information to anyone publicly or privately.
- This is a brand new program at NCGS, so we have no idea how many will donate and how many will request assistance. For that reason, you should have no expectations on when or if you might be notified as far as receiving assistance.
