Welcome to the NCGS Blog

Hello and welcome to the North Carolina Genealogy Society blog! We’re excited to have you here.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed with research questions or felt like you’ve run out of North Carolina resources?

Did you finally solve your family’s brick wall and now you want to share the fantastic news?

Do you want to hear the latest news and announcements for the society?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are in the right place! The North Carolina Genealogy Society blog will become a one-stop shop for all things related to North Carolina genealogy and family history. Whether you’re looking for research tutorials, inspiration from other genealogists’ success, or new resources for records and information, you’ll be able to find it here.

Here’s a sneak peak into some of the amazing series we’ve planned for you:

Member spotlights: we want to highlight YOU. We’ll be sharing interviews with members sharing how they became involved in genealogy, where they are researching in North Carolina, and what they are doing to progress with their research.

Repository spotlights: North Carolina has 250+ libraries and archives that may have the information you need to solve your latest family mystery. We can’t wait to explore what these repositories have to offer and how they can help you.

Photograph showcase: history comes to life with the help of photographs. Each week we will share a photograph from a North Carolina repository or a photograph submitted from our members.

Success stories: one of the greatest sources of inspiration comes from hearing how other people succeeded. Researching your family can be hard, but oh so rewarding.

Volunteer spotlights: Have you ever considered volunteering with the society? These spotlights will give you a glimpse into what it’s like to volunteer with NCGS. You’ll learn who the current volunteers are, what the do, why they love it, and how you can get involved.

Past journal article highlights: publication of the NCGS Journal began in 1975. With over 172 journals and 11,000+ pages, it’s easy to miss some of the best articles. We’ll hone in on some of our favorite articles from past issues and help you discover what’s inside.

We hope sharing this content will provide informative and interesting help for you as you hone your North Carolina.
